Mix seasonings and rub on meat. Let the tri tip sit out for at least an hour covered so it is room temperature before grilling.
Preheat grill to 450º. Sear both sides over direct heat for 4-5 minutes. Then move to indirect heat and cook about 10-15 minutes on each side or until instant meat thermometer reads 130º in the thickest part of the meat.
Remove from heat and tent with foil for about 10 minutes. Slice against the grain and serve with your choice of topping, if desired.
