80/100… 80%… B-

That’s the kind of hippies we are!

If you have read our About Us page, you already know a little about us. If not, here is the bulleted version to get you up to speed.

  • I work in digital communications. Jennifer is an attorney.
  • A mutual friend set us up, but Jennifer stood me up instead.
  • I had a root canal and still showed up on pain meds.
  • She felt bad and checked me out on Facebook.
  • I was irresistible! (I admit, she was too! 😉 )
  • We started dating, then love, and marriage.

You’re all caught up now!

So, why do we call ourselves “B- Hippies”? Because that’s the kind of grades I got growing up! Just kidding… sort of. To be honest, we are a little on the crunchy-side, but not 100%. Before I was 30, I was diagnosed with high cholesterol. I liked donuts….a LOT! I also had a high metabolism, so I never gained a lot of weight. Anyways, we changed the way we were eating and planted our first garden. My cholesterol got better and I haven’t taken medications for it in years.

As we got closer to marriage, we started working out regularly. I’ll be honest… I needed to look good in a Speedo on our honeymoon! And I DID! Not so much anymore. We continued making a lot of meals from scratch. I even made various butters. A year and a half later, we had a little girl.

Within a couple of months of our daughter being born, Jennifer was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disorder that affects the thyroid. Over the next two years, we found out Jennifer needed to avoid gluten and dairy. We also found out that our little girl was intolerant to gluten, corn, dairy, and soy. She has since been diagnosed with Celiac Disease. All these things combined led us to make big changes in our lifestyle. I had to expand my cooking skills and Jennifer had to expand her baking skills. At first it was hard, but we did it.

Through this blog, you will learn more about us, how our lives have changed, and where we are going from here. We will try to give you recipes that help us and will hopefully help you. Our goal is to eventually tag specific brands of foods in our recipes and show you where to buy them to earn a little money to keep helping everyone. Please rate our recipes and let us know what you think on social media.
